Sealing dams and water tanks in mines — materials and technologies

Methods for sealing insulating dams and water tanks in underground mining: FLEXICOVER spray membranes, mineral binders, and PU foams.

Insulating dams and water tanks are important safety structures in underground mines. They require effective sealing due to constant contact with mine water and hydrostatic pressure.

Sealing materials:

FLEXICOVER — elastic spray membrane

a two-component, mineral-organic membrane for spray application. Creates gas- and water-tight insulation. Component A (dry) is a cement-based powder mix, Component B (wet) is aqueous polymer dispersion. Key properties: elasticity (high tear resistance), tightness maintained even with significant displacements, excellent adhesion to rock, concrete, steel, and wood, efficiency up to 200 m² per ton, fire-retardant.

Applications:

  • Sealing roofs and sidewalls against water and gas leakage
  • Protecting rock against weathering and crumbling
  • Sealing insulating dams in old workings corridors
  • Membrane coating working with bolt support
  • Anti-corrosion protection of metal and concrete surfaces
  • Waterproof insulation of underground tanks

Sealing method selection depends on structure type, water pressure, mine water chemistry, and required insulation durability.
